The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is ready to reignite its engines after the summer break at the Red Bull Ring, where the eighth of ten double seasonal rounds on the 2022 calendar will be held.

The fight for the top of the standings between Dino Beganovic (Prema Racing) and Gabriele Minì (ART Grand Prix) will continue in the Styrian woods. The former presents himself at the start of the Austrian weekend with 220 points, gained with four victories and six podiums, including those obtained in the previous round at Spa Francorchamps where he reached once again the top step of the podium. The Italian driver, 41 points behind, has collected two victories and three bronze medals this season, which landed him the role of the Swede’s antagonist. 

Just as much attention should be paid to Paul Aron (Prema Racing), who is also in the title race thanks to his 176 points, gained with important performances such as the victories at Monza and Paul Ricard, and the double win at Zandvoort. The spotlight is also on Hadrien David (R-ace GP), who comes in fourth overall in the continental series standings in Austria ahead of Dutchman Kas Haverkort (Van Amersfoort Racing) and teammate Gabriel Bortoleto, just back from his first win of the season scored in Race 2 in Belgium before the summer break. Eyes are also on Spaniard Mari Boya, who has been wearing the colors of MP Motorsport since the Spa event and occupies the eighth position in the standings, ahead of the two Rookie title contenders: Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident Motorsport) and Sebastian Montoya (Prema Racing), the latter making his Formula 3 debut last weekend at Zandvoort and hitting the top 10 in both rounds.

Speaking of news, Tereza Bábíčková will debut in the European series wearing the colors of G4 Racing team, in which Gillian Henrion will compete for the first time this year in place of the injured Axel Gnos. Another new development relates to KIC Motorsport, now listing Sebastian Ogaard among its ranks, while RPM team is ready to welcome Pierre-Louis Chovet.

The Austrian weekend’s program will get into full swing on Thursday with four hours of pre-collective test and on Friday with two 50-minute collective tests. The first qualifying will start on Saturday at 9.50, determining the starting order for the first round at 13.45. On Sunday, engines start at 9.08 for the second official session while Race 2 will be held at 14.30.
