The German Kart Championship is going to start into the new season on the Erftlandring in Kerpen from May 7th – 9th. During the past weeks, all the necessary arrangements for a successful year have been made. The highest German kart racing series promises continuity and high quality.
The German Kart Championship carries a long tradition. In 1962, Werner Ihle was the first driver to ever win the German Championship and thereby started a unique kart story. Since then, the DKM has taken place continuously and is going to celebrate its 60th birthday in the 2022 season. Among the previous Champions are greats such as seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher and former Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg.
Since then, the German Kart Championship has been continuously developing and is going to consist of five grade series this season: DKM, DJKM, DSKM, DSKC and DEKM. But the DMSB Championship does not just consider the kart drivers’ interests when choosing the classes.
The DKM also sets standards when it comes to technology and equipment. For many years, the races have been accompanied by an extensive race-control as well as a video livestream which offers numerous special features. There’s also stability regarding the tire- and fuel-supplier: Vega and Panta are going to exclusively provide the DKM with their material in 2021 as well and are staying true to the previous price structure.
“It’s important to us as organizers to be able to offer a highly professional platform to our drivers and also hold on to our values. We were able to achieve this again for 2021. We renewed our contracts with all of our familiar partners”, explains series coordinator Stefan Wagner.
The same goes for the locations of the 2021 DKM. To avoid possible restrictions due to the Corona pandemic, the season kick-off is going to take place in May. The drivers are going to start into the German Kart Championship from May 7th on the Erftlandring in Kerpen. After that, events in Wackersdorf, Genk (Belgium), Mülsen and Ampfing will follow. The contracts with the organizers have been concluded for all races and nothing is standing in the way of a thrilling season.
The DKM is aware though that the current Corona situation does not provide the drivers and teams with total planning security. That’s why there will not be a late fee for registrations after March 1st this season. All drivers can register for one of the grade series up until two weeks before the race. To be able to start at the kick-off in Kerpen, the registration fee only has to be paid until May 1st.
“We know how difficult the situation is for our drivers and teams. That’s why we’ve reacted to this and adjusted our rules. The same goes for the participation fee. We’re keeping it steady despite rising costs. But the extra expenses that the Corona pandemic is costing the organizers have to be met somehow too. The additional 100€ per weekend for the raised hygiene- and security-measures will completely go to the organizers and are not an additional gain”, Stefan Wagners continues.
Regarding the tendering of the individual classes, the people responsible have reacted to the low interest in the Shifterkart area. If there are going to be less than 18 registrations for the DSKM at the season kick-off, it will be merged with the DSKC. There will still be two rankings, keeping the thought of the DSKC alive anyway.
„We’re excited for the new season. 2020 was temporarily turbulent and now we’re hoping that 2021 is not going to bring more restrictions due to the Corona pandemic. We received high praise from the regulatory authorities last year for our security concept and are therefore going to keep using it”, says Stefan Wagner, looking positively towards the coming season.
