Van Amersfoort Racing: 50 years of talent development for Formula 1

In this milestone year, no fewer than four drivers on the Formula 1 grid began their careers with the Dutch team. This impressive achievement highlights Van Amersfoort Racing’s (VAR) significant impact on international motorsport.

In 2025, Van Amersfoort Racing celebrates its 50th anniversary as one of the most prominent international racing teams, dedicated to developing young racing talent. From the early successes of Huub Rothengatter to the current generation of F1 stars such as Red Bull Racing drivers Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson, as well as Charles Leclerc and Oliver Bearman, VAR has proven to be a springboard for talents aspiring to reach the top of motorsport.

To commemorate this special anniversary, VAR is introducing a unique logo and a special golden livery. The Dutch team, founded by Frits van Amersfoort in 1975, is paying tribute to its rich history.

The specially designed VAR50 livery and logo symbolize the golden successes the team has achieved across various feeder series leading to Formula 1. Drivers such as Jos Verstappen, Mick Schumacher, Giedo van der Garde, Christijan Albers, Kevin Magnussen, and Franco Colapinto began their international racing careers with VAR.

In total, the team has developed more than ten drivers who have made the step to Formula 1. VAR’s impact on motorsport is undeniable. Over the past 50 years, VAR has built an impressive legacy. Former VAR drivers are not only present on today’s F1 grid but also in other international racing series, such as IndyCar, WEC, NASCAR, and Formula E.

All these drivers share one thing: they were shaped by the expertise and guidance of Frits van Amersfoort’s team.

“Fifty years of Van Amersfoort Racing is a special milestone that feels like it flew by. We’ve always simply done our best to give young talent an opportunity and help them grow. Knowing that we’ve contributed to motorsport and the development of so many drivers and team members makes me genuinely proud.” – Frits van Amersfoort, founder of Van Amersfoort Racing.

The golden VAR50 livery will be unveiled on the new Formula 3 cars during the pre-season test in Barcelona from 19 to 21 February. The official race debut will follow at the F2/F3 season opener in Melbourne during the Australian Grand Prix from 14 to 16 March.

The team is also working on several special initiatives to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Fans and followers are encouraged to keep an eye on VAR this year for exclusive content and events surrounding the jubilee.
