Sami Meguetounif doubles up with MP for second attempt at FRECA glory

Quick young Frenchman Sami Meguetounif will remain with MP Motorsport for a second full term in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA). By doubling with MP, the 18-year-old from Marseille aims to improve on the promise shown in his debut season in the category. With Meguetounif’s signing, MP has completed a three-car FRECA line-up that also includes Dilano van ’t Hoff and Victor Bernier.

Having already joined the Dutch team for four late-2021 outings, Meguetounif completed his first full FRECA season in the series with a strong second place at Spa as the highlight of his rookie year. After extensively testing with MP in the post-season, the young Frenchman teamed up with MP for the Formula Regional Middle East (FRME) winter series, resulting in a win, two podiums and two pole positions. This prepared him well for what will be his second full term in the championship.

“I’ve had no doubts re-signing with MP for a fresh assault on the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine”, said Meguetounif. “Our strong pace in the FRME series confirmed my beliefs, and you just cannot help but notice that the confidence in the team is on a high after they took the FIA Formula 2 drivers and teams titles. It’s got the FRECA squad in a winning mood too, and I very much aim to deliver on that. FRECA is a hugely competitive championship but I’m sure that we will be among the frontrunners.”

“It’s great news that we are able to continue with Sami”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “There is no doubt about Sami’s natural talent, and we fully intend to unlock every last bit of it as we move into the new FRECA season ahead. With the raw pace at his disposal, there is no question that consistently fighting for points finishes and podiums should be our goal for 2023.”
