Richard Verschoor teams up with MP Motorsport for renewed FIA F2 challenge

Richard Verschoor teams up with MP Motorsport for renewed FIA F2 challenge

Dutch driver Richard Verschoor will rejoin MP Motorsport for a fresh attack of the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2025, it is confirmed today.

Notably, ahead of next season's challenge, the experienced Formula 2 campaigner will begin his reacquaintance with MP by replacing US-bound Dennis Hauger in the Dutch squad's FIA F2 line-up for the final two 2024 rounds, in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Verschoor and MP aim to revitalise a cooperation which dates back to the Dutchman’s title-winning debut year in motorsport, when the partnership dominated to win two championships in one season in Formula 4.

Winning races in every F2 season in which he competed, Verschoor also competed with MP in Formula Renault, GP3 and FIA Formula 3, with his famous victory in the latter at the 2019 Macau Grand Prix the undoubted highlight.

Having signed for the 2025 FIA F2 season, the 23-year-old from Benschop will actually return to an MP cockpit as soon as December this year when he will also take part in the two season-closing F2 rounds in the Middle East. Verschoor replaces Norwegian driver Dennis Hauger, who has elected to focus on a bright new future in the United States.

“Signing up with MP for more Formula 2 feels like coming home”, said Verschoor, “I spent half of my entire racing career with MP, so it means a lot to me that we are able to move forward together for 2025 while also adding the two final 2024 rounds at Losail and Yas Marina. It’s been a partnership that has led to success in Formula 4, Formula 3 and Formula 2, including that legendary victory at Macau. I can’t wait to travel to Qatar and go back to working with the team once again.”

“I’m extremely happy to welcome back Richard for another season in Formula 2”, said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s team principal, “We have celebrated many wins together, so it’s a true privilege to tap into his wealth of Formula 2 knowledge as we head towards a new season. Richard returning to the MP fold is testament to the way we go racing as a family, and he has always fitted right in.

"Meanwhile, I would like to thank Dennis for his huge contribution to the team in the past two F2 seasons. Three wins, nine podiums and two poles is no mean feat, and I am certain that he will take his career to a new level in North America. Dennis has all the talent to succeed in the US and we are convinced that his first American victory is just around the corner. We wish him the best of luck.”

Following a successful karting career, Verschoor made a storming debut in single-seaters in 2016 with MP where he won both the Spanish F4 Championship and the SMP F4 Championship in his first season in cars. Using Formula Renault as a stepping stone, he entered the GP3 Series midway through the 2018 season and reached the podium in only his third race weekend in the category.

His first FIA F3 season in 2019 was crowned by Verschoor taking the best victory of his career – the FIA F3 World Cup in Macau. Continuing with MP in FIA F2 in 2021, the Dutchman went on to win in his debut season, before taking further race victories in every season that followed, in the process also collecting 11 podiums, two pole positions and three fastest laps.
