Richard Verschoor will have another shot at a top classification in the FIA Formula 2 championship in 2024. In doing so, the recently turned 23-year-old TeamNL talent will race for Italian Trident Motorsport. With that, Verschoor returns to the team with which he also raced in Formula 2 in 2022. In that season, the Dutchman scored one victory, four podiums and drove the fastest lap three times. "I am very happy to be back at Trident Motorsport, grateful for this opportunity, and ready to take on the challenge," Verschoor said.
After titles in Formula 4 and successes in Formula 3, culminating in his win in the 2019 Macau Grand Prix, Richard Verschoor made the switch to the FIA Formula 2 championship in 2021. In his debut season, the now 23-year-old TeamNL talent immediately scored a win, something Verschoor managed to repeat time and again in subsequent seasons. This year, the Dutchman was even among the most consistently scoring drivers in the field, finishing outside the points in only one of the 13 rounds of the championship run.
For the 2024 season, Verschoor returns to Trident Motorsport, the team for which the TeamNL talent also competed in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 championship. In November, Verschoor was already driving for the Italian team in the Macau Grand Prix and the Formula 2 test days with Trident also went so well that the partnership has been renewed. As he has already proved in recent seasons, in Verschoor, Trident brings in a driver who knows how to get results and perform consistently. The goal for 2024 is therefore to be competitive in all races throughout the season.
Giacomo Ricci, Trident team manager, is delighted with Verschoor's arrival. "We are very happy to welcome Verschoor back. He made an excellent impression with us in 2022 and we are proud to have him back now. I am sure we have everything in our package to make it a competitive season. Verschoor is a fast and experienced driver who makes no mistakes and seizes opportunities. We will do our best to achieve our ambitious goals together."
Verschoor is also looking forward to the renewed collaboration. "I am very happy to compete again with Trident Motorsport in the FIA Formula 2 championship in 2024. After our successful collaboration in 2022, I am looking forward to working with the team to develop the new car that will be driven in this year's championship. I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to take on the challenges ahead."
The FIA Formula 2 season in 2024 will once again feature 14 rounds, with two races per round in each case, and will, as always, run in the framing programme of Formula 1. The title fight kicks off on the weekend of 1 and 2 March in Bahrain. Next season will be the first year of driving a new Formula 2 car model, making the challenge for driver and team even greater.
