PREMA retains Kirill Smal for 2021 Formula 4 season

PREMA Powerteam is delighted to announce that Kirill Smal will stay with the team for the 2021 Formula 4 season. The 15-year-old Russian, joined PREMA on a part-time basis last year in Italian F4 and quickly adapted to the new environment, leaving a strong impression. His continued progress eventually culminated in a third-place finish and a rookie win in the final race at Vallelunga.

Smal is no stranger to success though, having experienced a promising karting career that extended into 2020 when he ended up second in the WSK Champions Cup. More silverware is already coming for him this season as he’s currently running in the Formula 4 UAE championship. Racing in preparation for his F4 campaign, Smal has so far amassed three wins and ten podium finishes which lay great foundations for the rest of the year.

Smal, who will enter the full Italian Formula 4 season and selected races of the German ADAC series, is also part of the SMP Racing program, which he joined at an early age in karting competition.

Angelo Rosin - Team Principal

“It’s great to have Kirill back with us to continue the work we started last season. We were very impressed by his speed potential and the progress he made throughout the year, so we look forward to continuing on the same note for 2021. It’s very rewarding for us to follow young drivers in their path towards success, and with Kirill, we expect more satisfaction along the way.”

“I’m happy to continue racing for such great team as Prema Powerteam, it’s a real pleasure. Also, it’s a great responsibility, of course, and I want to thank SMP Racing for this opportunity and for believing in me.
I liked to race for Prema Powerteam last year although we spent only three rounds together. The team warm welcomed me, we started to work immediately and reached our goals at the end of the season. I hope we will get even more success this year. My goal is to target wins”.
