Matteo Nannini (Italy) has been confirmed as the first driver to join HWA RACELAB, which lines up in FIA Formula 3 in 2021. The 17-year-old arrives with one year of Formula 3 experience to his name. He recently attended the post-season tests in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for HWA RACELAB.
Affalterbach, 18th December 2020 – Matteo Nannini is related to Formula 1 GP winner Alessandro Nannini. The family already has a link to HWA: Uncle Alessandro drove for the team in the 1997 FIA GT World Championship.
Matteo demonstrated his talent at an early age, winning multiple Italian karting championships. He soon caught the eye in Formula racing too, where his achievements included victory in his first race with the new car. At the age of 15, Nannini made his debut in the Arabian Formula 4 UAE Championship in 2019 and promptly racked up a further six victories en route to winning the title. He switched to the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the start of the year. Presenting Jenzer Motorsport he finished third in Barcelona with his best result of the season.
Matteo took to the track in an HWA RACELAB car for the first time at the FIA Formula 2 post-season tests, which took place in Sakhir (Bahrain) from 8th to 10th December. He ended his debut in the top ten in the final session of the three-day test.
The 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship will hold its first races of the new season in Barcelona from 7th to 9th May.
