Kas Haverkort takes dominant first Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine win at Hungaroring

At the 4.381 kilometres long Hungaroring Formula 1 circuit, Kas Haverkort (Van Amersfoort Racing) scored his first victory in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. At the start, the Dutch driver maintained the lead and won from Gabriele Minì (ART Grand Prix) and Roman Bilinski (Trident Motorsport).

Haverkort converted his first pole position in the European series into the race lead which he had to defend against Minì, who on the opening lap overtook Paul Aron. The Prema Racing driver went off the track after a contact with Joshua Dufek. Shortly after Van Amersfoort Racing driver touched Hadrien David’s car, allowing Bilinski to take the third place.

The Trident Motorsport standard bearer, who moved up from eighth place, held the position until the checkered flag, taking the first podium of the team in the series in addition to being the fastest rookie. Leonardo Fornaroli, due to a good race pace, was fourth at the wheel of another Italian team’s car ahead of Dufek, who finished fifth.

In the last part of the race Aron was the protagonist of an exciting fight with his teammate Dino Beganovic. The Estonian driver got the better of it and finished sixth.

Completing the top 10 were David (R-ace GP), Gabriel Bortoleto (R-ace GP) and Esteban Masson (FA Racing), who scored his first point in Hungary.

The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine will be back in action tomorrow morning at 9.55 am for the second qualifying session, while Race 2 will start at 4.40 pm, always over a distance of 30′ plus one lap to complete.
