The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine has ignited its engines for the first time at Hungaroring, which today hosted the qualifying of the European series, now in its sixth round of the season.
Kas Haverkort took his best result in qualifying setting a 1m38.655s in Group A, in which Van Amersfoort Racing driver narrowly bested Gabriele Minì (ART Grand Prix) in a close battle by only 0.150s. The two of them changed positions continuously during the session, however, it was Haverkort who emerged on top in the end, while the Italian driver will start form the third place in Race 1.
Paul Aron (Prema Racing) will line up on the front row ahead of Hadrien David (R-ace Gp) who is fourth on the grid, after struggling to match the Estonian in the second group.
Row three will consist of Van Amersfoort Racing’s Joshua Dufek, who finished third in the first session, result that earned him the top spot among rookies, and Gabriel Bortoleto (R-ace GP), who showed good pace in Group B.
Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident Motorsport) was seventh overall ahead of his teammates Roman Bilinski and Tim Tramnitz, while Esteban Masson (FA Racing), who confirmed a good feeling with his car already in yesterday’s collective tests, rounded up the top-10.
“It’s an amazing feeling to start from the pole position – said Haverkort – the team did a great job and the third time in our group signed by Joshua proves it. It’s a new track for us but we did a good preparation that allowed us to get the first row today.”
The first race of the weekend is scheduled at 1.55pm (30’+ 1lap), with live streaming on official YouTube and Facebook of the series (links at formularegionaleubyalpine.com).
