Joanne Ciconte completes F1 Academy line-up at MP Motorsport

Promising Australian motor racing talent Joanne Ciconte has joined MP Motorsport to complete the team’s F1 Academy line-up for the 2025 season.

The 15-year-old, from Melbourne, teams up with Maya Weug and Alba Hurup Larsen in MP’s three-car squad for the Grand Prix-supporting series developed to champion the next generation of female talent.

With Ciconte and 16-year-old Hurup Larsen, MP Motorsport will have the two youngest competitors on the 2025 F1 Academy grid, but Australia’s teenage sensation has already proved her speed at home with points-scoring runs in both the Australian F4 Championship and the Australian Formula Open Series. In the current Formula Winter Series, Ciconte is among the quickest of the 10 female drivers competing in the 30-car field.

“I’m proud to be moving up into the F1 Academy series with MP Motorsport”, said Ciconte, who will be racing in the colours of the F1 Academy series, “To be able to race in front of large crowds and the Formula 1 stars during Grand Prix weekends is a dream come true, and to be able to do that with such an experienced team like MP Motorsport is all I could ask for. I’m very much looking forward to get going with the first test to further hone the car and our cooperation, and can’t wait to start my first race in Shanghai.”

“We are very happy to welcome Joanne in our midst”, said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s team principal, “She is an exciting final addition to our F1 Academy line-up, that has a lovely balance between Maya’s experience and Alba and Joanne as two very quick young rookies. We were delighted to see Joanne’s strong progress in her latest winter outings, and we aim to extend that into her debut F1 Academy season.”

Before making her single-seater debut in 2024, Ciconte showed her mettle in the Australian karting scene, both as a Cadet and at Junior level. Further preparing for her first full season in international single-seater racing, she also took in six late-season races in the F4 Spanish Championship. Additionally, a single appearance in the Brno round of the Central European Formula 4 Championship netted her a best result of fourth place.
