JD Motorsport lined up three cars again in round 6 of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine held this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. After the successful one-off appearance of Michael Belov at Le Castellet, where the Russian driver took a double podium, Ido Cohen drove the Italian squad's third car. The Israeli driver found an agreement with JD Motorsport to contest the second part of the season.
Cohen quickly adapted to the car, improving his pace in every session and setting the 14th fastest time in qualifying 2. He was followed by teammate Eduardo Barrichello (P16). Unfortunately, Cohen made the wrong tyre choice on the grid for race 1 and had to pit at the end of the formation lap to make the switch back.
Starting from the pits, he put up a brilliant recovery under pouring rain, climbing up to P21, right in front of teammate Tommy Smith. In race 2, the Australian was involved in a contact with another car and ended up in the wall. On the other hand, Cohen delivered a remarkable recovery from the 9th row of the grid to take P15, just a few seconds away from the top-10.
In his first outing at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps track, Barrichello managed to finish both races, gaining valuable experience in challenging conditions, which will be crucial for the second part of the season.
