Italian Champion to line up in Australian Kart Championship opener

Italian Champion Moritz Ebner is set to make his Australian debut at the opening round of the 2025 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship presented by Castrol in Melbourne next weekend (March 28-30).

The 20-year-old factory development driver for EKS adds further international interest to the prestigious Championship with drivers from all across Australia, New Zealand and Asia among the 340-plus entry list that covers eight classes.

Ebner, an accomplished racer with victories in the Italian Championship and IAME Warrior Final, will compete in the premier KZ2 category, piloting the EKS Condor KZ2 kart. Excited for his first race in Australia, Ebner expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity.

“It’s been a dream of mine to visit Australia, and it’s even better that I can drive at one of the country’s best tracks and compete against its top drivers. Thank you to EKS and HJR Driver Coach for making this dream a reality,” said Ebner.

His arrival adds further prestige to the Australian Kart Championship and marks a significant moment for the EKS brand, as 2025 is the first year the brand will be part of the AKC Manufacturers' Championship.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to start our campaign in the Manufacturers’ Championship campaign than having Moritz join our team at Round 1. The Eagle has well and truly landed,” said Joe Tighe of Alpha Motorsport, the exclusive Australian distributor for EKS.

EKS karts were introduced to Australia in late 2022 through a partnership between Alpha Motorsport and Italy’s Emme Racing. Since then, their presence in Australian karting has steadily grown, with 2025 expected to be a breakthrough year.

Fans will have the chance to watch Ebner take on Australia’s best kart racers from Friday with Practice to be contested the Port Melbourne circuit.  The qualifying and racing will kick off on Saturday from 8am ahead of the finals on Sunday.
