Hitech Grand Prix has confirmed its full driver line-up for the 2022 GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC. Bryce Aron, Luke Browning and Cian Shields will join the team as they chase the GB3 title.
Aron joins the squad with a season of experience in the championship already. The American driver is a former winner of the Team USA Formula Ford Scholarship and finished third in the Walter Hayes Trophy in 2020. The 18-year-old then progressed to GB3 at the start of 2021, and showed excellent consistency, finishing every race, claiming 10 finishes in the top-10 in his first year of single-seater racing.
Aron commented: “I’m excited to be joining Hitech in the 2022 GB3 Championship. I believe my experience as a second year driver in the series will be a great platform to build from. I can’t wait to get back in the car and get started.”
Luke Browning is one of the UK’s most promising single-seater prospects currently racing in the junior categories. The Cheshire-born driver, who has just turned-20 years-old, won the British F4 Championship courtesy of seven race wins in 2020, and then competed in both ADAC and Italian F4 in 2021. He finished third overall in the ADAC category last year with wins at the Red Bull Ring and Hockenheim alongside six further podium finishes. He also made his GB3 debut at his home circuit, Oulton Park, and claimed a race win in just his second race.
Browning commented: “I’m delighted to announce I’ll be joining Hitech GP for our 2022 title push. I’m feeling excited and confident in the team, and I’m looking forward to fighting for victories this year. Pre-season testing has been great and we’re going to be well prepared for our campaign. Let’s go get it!”
Completing the team’s line-up is Cian Shields, a highly decorated karting graduate who will race cars for the first time in 2022. His karting exploits have taken him across the UK and into Europe, with highlights including third in the 2018 IAME Winter Cup X30 Junior class, and victory in the same category of IAME Series Benelux a year later. Shields has embarked on a major winter testing programme since the Autumn, gaining good knowledge of many of the UK circuits that GB3 will visit.
Shields commented: “I am really looking forward to racing in GB3 this year with Hitech. It is my first season in cars so I have a lot to learn but I am confident that with the help from Hitech, we can have a good season of racing.”
GB3 Team Manager, Phil Blow, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Bryce Aron, Luke Browning and Cian Shields for the 2022 GB3 Championship. We’re confident that they will give us the best chance possible to fight for the title and look forward to a strong season.”
