British teenager Jack Sherwood will step up to the GB4 Championship with Elite Motorsport this year as he graduates from Ginetta Juniors. Sherwood was 15th in the final 2021 Ginetta Junior Rookie classification in his first season out of karts, recording eighth position in the Rookie field on four occasions. 

In the four-race Ginetta Junior Winter series staged in November, the 15-year-old claimed the ‘Hard Charger’ Award for the driver who gained the most places from their grid slots over the course of the weekend, rising 20 positions in the four races on his way to achieving three top-10 finishes.

Sherwood has since enjoyed several days of testing in Elite’s GB4 car ahead of the opening rounds of the championship at the team’s ‘home’ circuit, Snetterton on 2-3 April.

Leicestershire-based Sherwood said: “My main goals this year are to score some good points for myself and Elite. I’m really looking forward to the challenges ahead. It’s a new car for all the teams on the grid so I think there will be an element of learning the car throughout the season for everyone.

“I really enjoyed competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship last year with Elite but felt that 2022 was the right time to make the step into single-seaters. I wanted to make this transition with Elite and when they informed us of its proposed GB4 programme, it gave us an immediate opportunity to not only continue with Elite but make the jump into single-seaters.

“From the moment I joined Elite, I’ve felt really at home. I get on well with the team and during last year they showed their professionalism and skill. Elite has also given me the facilities and people to improve and become a more rounded driver. I am looking forward to continuing to work hard with the team. I’m looking to become a more rounded and overall better driver.”
