Rodin Motorsport’s Louis Sharp posted a quick lap just before rain set in at Zandvoort to top the first session of the day at Zandvoort on Friday morning.
The New Zealander’s best time of 1m31.217s is the fastest of the week so far, and put him just over a tenth of a second clear of the pack, headed by Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Tymek Kucharczyk. VRD Racing by Arden’s Noah Ping topped the times with just over 15 minutes remaining but brought out the red flags after nudging lightly into the barriers at turn three.
It was during the red flag that the rain began to fall, scuppering any further chances of lap time improvements. Ping therefore held onto third ahead of the lead JHR Developments car of John Bennett, who was just 0.022 further back. Elite Motorsport’s Jarrod Waberski continues his strong start to the event with the fifth quickest time, less than a tenth of a second clear of the second Rodin car of James Hedley.
Hedley in turn was 0.030s ahead of the second Elite car of McKenzy Cresswell, with teammate Hugo Schwarze a further 0.057s further back in eighth. VRD Racing by Arden’s Nikita Johnson was 0.015s in arrears in ninth, and 0.076s clear of Rodin’s Arthur Rogeon, who completed the top 10, which was covered by exactly nine-tenths of a second.
The second GB3 Championship session of the day is due to commence at 15.10 local time (14.10 UK).
