The upcoming weekend, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) starts into the second half of the season, additionally to a new edition at Prokart Raceland, Wackersdorf. With four winners in four races so far, the race weekend promises a lot of excitement. The overall classification is currently led by Joel Mesch.
After the double-stroke with the races in Kerpen and Wackersdorf within a week, the drivers of the DEKM now had some time to draw breath. From Friday on, however, things will get serious again. Once again, the world’s first pure electric kart series will be hosted by the Prokart Raceland Wackersdorf, then again within the German Kart Championship (DKM).
High power density in the participant field
Already the first races showed a high power density in the international starter field of the DEKM. The pilots from five nations hung very closely together and ensured numerous exciting overtaking maneuvers and conceivably close finishes in the evaluation races.
At the start in Kerpen, the Swiss driver Sebastian Kraft and Joel Mesch from Germany shared victories. Axel La Flamme from Great Britain and Diego Stifter from Italy were successful at the races in Wackersdorf. Luka Wlömer has not yet celebrated a final victory, but due to a constant performance he is still part of the top group and is currently only three points behind the championship leader.
Project E20 electric kart a complete success
With the start of the 2020 season, the new electric kart Project E20 from series partner BRP-Rotax was also used for the first time. The e-kart is lighter and more powerful than its predecessor. Already in Kerpen and Wackersdorf the lap times were much faster and race distances of more than 15 kilometers were challenged. “We are very satisfied with the capability of the Project E20 e-kart. The performance is impressive and ensures a completely different driving feeling. The drivers are now much more challenged and the feedback is consistently positive,” Oliver Schielein, Managing Director of DEKM promoter IKmedia, summed up his impressions of the first two race weekends.
Fast guest driver in Wackersdorf
In addition to the ten regular driver of the DEKM, a fast guest pilot completes the field of participants in the third race of the season. Belgian Xen De Ruwe has enjoyed numerous successes in karting over the past 13 years and was most recently involved in the development of the Project E20 E-Kart.

The races of the DEKM will once again be accompanied by extensive reporting. On Saturday and Sunday, qualifying, as well as both races, will be broadcasted live on the online stream on www.dekm.de.
