Swiss driver Dario Cabanelas Altukhov has joined MP Motorsport as the team’s fifth and final signing for its burgeoning 2024 Eurocup-3 programme. It will be the 17-year-old’s first full year in the series as he aims to build on his experience gained in the final three rounds of the 2023 season.
The youngster with Spanish and Ukrainian roots is an FFSA Academy driver and made a strong start to his Eurocup-3 career with a string of top-ten finishes and his first points in the series, having joined the Eurocup-3 trail from the Estoril round in October 2023. These strong results convinced the Dutch team to sign him on for a full season in 2024. Cabanelas is the final addition to MP Motorsport’s five-car Eurocup-3 line-up that also includes Bruno Del Pino, Emerson Fittipaldi Jr, Owen Tangavelou and Javier Sagrera.
“I’m really pleased to start my first full season in the Eurocup-3 series with MP Motorsport”, said Cabanelas. “Their experience in today’s single-seater world is unequalled, and it’s an enticing prospect that they are able to accelerate talented drivers along the full formula ladder towards the top. I’m very much looking forward to the start of the season at Spa in just two weeks’ time!”
“It’s great news that Dario will be part of our Eurocup-3 line-up for 2024”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal, Sander Dorsman. “He showed lots of promise in last year’s final three rounds, and we aim to use that as a platform for further improvement into the new season, hoping that Dario can soon fight at the front. Along with Bruno, Emmo, Owen and Javier, Dario will have MP Motorsport vying for wins in the series, so it’s our goal to continue where we left off in the Winter Series at Motorland Aragon in March when we won both races.”
Cabanelas comes to the Eurocup-3 series after two seasons in French Formula 4, in which he finished 8th in 2021 and scored two podiums to finish 9th in 2022. Before that, the youngster completed a successful karting career with a win in the Vega Trofeo and third in the Swiss OK Junior championship in 2020.
