Several good duels excited day one of the second round of the WSK Super Master Series in Sarno. Qualifying heats will continue on Saturday, while the final stages will be on Sunday, February 9th with Live TV and Streaming coverage.
The second round of the WSK Super Master Series at the International Circuit Napoli in Sarno kicked off with the first day of competition, featuring qualifying and the initial heats. With 277 of the 292 entered drivers from 45 nations taking to the track, and with favourable spring-like weather conditions, the event is shaping up to be a thrilling one.
OK-NJ – Rocco Makes a Surprising Comeback
The Canadian driver Rocco Simone (#727 Kidix/KR-Modena Engines-Vega) produced a surprise by winning the first heat, M1, after a strong recovery. The Ukrainian driver Oleksandr Legenkyi (Team Driver/KR-Iame) also made a good recovery to finish second. The Chinese driver Huifei Xie (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) finished third, followed by the American Nicola Stanley (MP Academy Gamoto/Henza Kart-TM Kart) and French Teo Policand (VictoryLane/KR-Iame). The pole sitter, the Ukrainian Vsevolod Osadchyi-Suslovskyi (Monster K Factory/Monster K-TM Kart), finished eighth. The championship leader from America Lucas Palacio (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame), finished ninth instead.
MINI Gr.3 – Ratajski and Lazaro win the first heats
In the MINI Gr.3 category, the French driver Stan Ratajski (#513 BabyRace/Parolin-Iame-Vega) took a narrow victory in heat A-B, edging out his teammate, the American driver Majed Nachawati, and pole-sitter Achille Rea (CRG Racing Team/T-Group-TM Kart). The second heat, C-D, was also closely contested, with the Portuguese driver Xavier Lazaro (#570 DR/DR-TM Kart) emerging victorious ahead of the Team Driver duo of Polish driver Blazej Kostrzewa and championship leader Niccolò Perico.
MINI U10 – Bergman wins a close race against Raikkonen
In the M1 heat of the MINI U10 category, the American driver Josh Bergman (Kidix/KR-Iame-Vega) made a strong comeback to secure victory, overtaking his teammate, the Caribbean driver Wynn Godschalk, who had started from pole position. Another teammate, Robin Raikkonen, the son of Formula 1 champion Kimi Raikkonen, also made a great recovery to finish second. Godschalk ended up in third place.
OKJ – Zulfikari and Crisan set the pace
In the OKJ category, the Turkish driver Iskender Zulfikari (#328 Forza Racing/Exprit-TM Kart-Vega) won the first heat, while the Canadian Ilie Crisan Tristan (#304 Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) won the second. The Dutch driver Dean Hoogendoorn (Prema Racing/KR-Iame), who had started from pole position, finished eighth in the first heat. In the first heat, Zulfikari was followed on the podium by his teammate, the Monegasque Andrea Manni, and Polish driver Remigiusz Samczyk (Fusion Motorsport/KR-Iame). In the second heat, Crisan narrowly defeated his teammate, the Australian driver Sebastian Eskandari-Marandi (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex), with the American Devin Walz (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) finishing third. The championship leader from America Michael McGaughy (Koski Motorsport/KR-Iame), retired from the race.
OK – Martinese and Van Langendonck claim early victories
The two heats in the OK category saw victories going to the Italian driver Iacopo Martinese (#203 KR Motorsport/KR-Iame-LeCont) in heat A-B and Belgian driver Dries Van Langendonck (#201 Prema Racing/KR-Iame) in heat C-D. The Scottish driver Zac Drummond (#230 Fusion Motorsport/KR-Iame), the winner at La Conca and pole-sitter at Sarno, was forced to retire. Behind Martinese, the Czech driver Jindrich Pesl (Tony Kart Racing Team/Tony Kart-Vortex) and Russian driver Vladimir Ivannikov (BirelART Racing/BirelART-TM Kart) secured podium positions. In heat C-D, the Italian Filippo Sala (Forza Racing/Exprit-TM Kart) and Brazilian Bernardo Bernoldi (Prema Racing/KR-Iame) joined Van Langendonck on the podium.
KZ2 – Orlov and Vasile dominate
In the KZ2 category, the pole sitter, Max Orlov (#101 CPB Sport/Sodikart-TM Kart-Vega), won heat A-B. The Romanian driver Daniel Vasile (CL Racing Team/BirelART-TM Kart) took victory in heat C-D. In the first heat, Orlov was followed on the podium by the Italian driver Danilo Albanese (KR Motorsport/KR-Iame) and French driver Emilien Denner, making his debut with Formula K SRP Factory on an IPK-TM Kart. In the second heat, Vasile was joined on the podium by his BirelART Racing teammates, the Italian driver Cristian Bertuca and Spanish driver Pedro Hiltbrand.
