Peruvian youngster Andrés Cardénas is the fifth driver confirmed for MP Motorsport’s strong six car line-up in the 2025 Eurocup-3 series, the 16-year-old from Lima moving up after a pair of successful seasons in the F4 Spanish Championship.
Ready to progress to the next tier in formula racing, Cardénas comes from a Spanish F4 apprenticeship where he became a race winner in his debut season in 2023. The young Peruvian added two pole positions, a couple of podiums and a fastest lap on his way to eighth in the final standings.
Last year, a strong run in the Formula Winter Series netted him two wins, six podiums, two poles and a fastest lap, resulting in second overall in the highly competitive championship. In 2025, he joins Maciej Gładysz, Valerio Rinicella, Alexander Abkhazava and Mattia Colnaghi in MP Motorsport’s six car assault on Eurocup-3, with one more driver still to be confirmed.
“Joining MP Motorsport for the Eurocup-3 series is such an exciting opportunity for me”, said Cardénas, “I know how strong MP Motorsport is from having to fight them in my first two seasons of single-seater racing. Now I’m going to join them myself, so I guess I will soon find out where their strength is coming from!
"For myself, I’m confident that I’ll continue to grow as a driver, moving forward into a new series one step further up the ladder towards Formula 1. With a well-prepared team and talented teammates, I’m ready to give my best and aim for success in 2025.”
“Everyone at MP Motorsport is happy to see Andrés join our Eurocup-3 effort”, said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s team principal, “In the past two seasons, Andrés has been a worthy adversary to our Spanish F4 drivers, so we already had an eye on his talent.
"Now he is going to be part of our family, contributing to the great mix of experience and upcoming talent that we have lined up for, what promises to be, our strongest Eurocup-3 challenge yet. Together with Maciej, Valerio, Alexander and Mattia, I’m sure Andrés will shine.”
Cardénas made his debut in single-seater racing after an extremely convincing final year in karting in 2022, winning the WSK Champions Cup at OK Junior level and ending up as runner-up in the Champions of the Future Winter Series.
He then secured sixth place in the Champions of the Future Series while also finishing 15th in the WSK Super Master Series. Cardénas rounded out the year by placing 17th in the CIK-FIA World Championship.
