The Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup will extend to the GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC in 2022, as well as offering a significantly increased prize package in the GB3 Championship. The new season marks the 10th successive year the prize has been awarded, with £36,000 in prize money handed to drivers and teams since 2013. Previous winners include Jake Hughes, George Russell and 2021 champion Zak O’Sullivan.

Drivers in GB3 will this year be competing for a total prize fund of £8,000, with a cash sum of £250 and a trophy available for each pole secured in qualifying, a 25% increase over 2021. The driver with the most pole positions will secure a doubled end of year prize of £2,000 and a trophy, while the team of the driver with the most pole positions will also secure £2,000 and the David Poole-Warren Pole Position Cup. 

In GB4, competitors will be rewarded with £125 and a trophy for each pole earned in qualifying, while also fighting for an end of year sum of £1,000 and a trophy. Like in GB3, the team of the driver with the most poles will benefit from a £1,000 prize and a trophy, with an overall cash sum of £4,000 on offer, adding to GB4’s prize of £50,000 towards the champion’s next single-seater campaign.

Named after Jack Cavill, who played a vital supporting role in the early careers of several notable drivers from the 1960s onwards, the Pole Position Cup has been running since the inception of the BRDC F4 Championship in 2013, and has continued through the series’ evolution into BRDC British F3 and now GB3. Jack’s son John, who has become an immensely popular figure in the paddock, presents the prizes at each round. John has followed his father’s lead and played a major part in the career development of several leading drivers, including Tim Sugden and Will Power.
