Arden Motorsport, one of the UK’s best-known racing operations, will compete in this year’s GB4 Championship with its protégé Leon Wilson.
Over the past quarter century, the Banbury-based team has established itself as a powerhouse of European single-seater racing, having raced and won in series as diverse as FIA Formula 2, FIA Formula 3, GP2, GP3 and Formula Renault, in addition to domestic campaigns in GB3 and British F4, since its formation as an F3000 squad in 1997.
Current F1 stars Oscar Piastri, Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly are just some of the team’s notable graduates currently plying their trade at the top level of motorsport. The team has an established race-winning presence in the MSV paddock courtesy of its successful collaborative GB3 effort with VRD Racing, with the squad finishing third in the teams’ standings last year and taking four victories.
For its GB4 debut, Arden will elevate its Young Racing Driver Academy member Leon Wilson for his maiden car racing appearances. The Yorkshire-based 16-year-old first karted at the age of seven and is now gearing up for his GB4 debut at Oulton Park, having been a member of the YRDA since the start of 2022.
The young Brit has sampled Arden’s GB4 car in testing across the past year, with significant mileage accrued at the majority of circuits on the calendar, as well as overseas at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Arden Motorsport’s Team Principal Garry Horner said: “We’re delighted to be expanding our national presence into the GB4 Championship. We’ve enjoyed great success in GB3 since 2021, but GB4 gives us an ideal opportunity to further develop our Young Racing Driver Academy members before climbing up the motorsport ladder with us. Having worked closely with Leon across the past couple of years, this is the perfect environment for him to make his car racing debut and we’re looking forward to seeing him translate his testing form into actual competition.”
Leon Wilson said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to drive in this year’s GB4 Championship with Arden Motorsport. Garry Horner, Steve Hutchinson and the whole team at Arden have given me tremendous support and training since I joined their academy in 2022. It's now my chance to follow in the footsteps of some of Arden's famous alumni, and I’m determined to make the most of this opportunity.”
