Coul and Hennock get first national wins at the Australian Summer Series

Victorian Jay Coul and Queenslander Oskar Hennock scored their first national Karting Australia wins during Saturday’s action at the Australian Summer Series presented by GoPro in Melbourne.

Coul, a stalwart of the premier KZ2 category led for the entirety of the 11-minute Feature Race, however was pushed hard by a perennial frontrunner at the national level, Henry Johnstone. Youngster, Toby Dvorak showed strong speed to finish third.

Hennock was supreme in taking victory in the KA3 Junior field that was 54-drivers strong. With a split Sprint Race and Last Chance Qualifier, which saw the top ten finishers transfer into the main event, Hennock started seventh and converted a strong opening few laps into the Feature Race victory. He took the win over former Australian Champion Paddy Buckley and Baxter Jarrett.

Ky Burke took out the KA2 Feature Race after a race-long battle with Jye Flynn. Flynn crossed the line first but was handed a two-place penalty for passing under yellow flag conditions. Mid-North Coast NSW racer, Joel Lammers secured his best-ever KA2 finish in second.

Recent Junior graduate, Sam March got the biggest win of his emerging senior career in TaG 125. The bruising feature race saw half the field not finish on a drying circuit. March’s win was thumping, taking the chequered flag 6.8 seconds in front of Ben Holliday with Sam Downing coming third.

Christian Estasy led home the KA3 field. He took the win by just over 0.5 of a second ahead of Declan Matthews, who pushed his way through the field – starting the race deep in the pack. Zac Heard brought his KR home third.

Oliver Williamson took another big win in Cadet 12, winning the Feature in an entertaining race while Aston Mills moved his way through the field to finish second with Jensen Damaschino home in third position.

The fields re-set for tomorrow’s second day of the GoPro Summer Series with qualifying, a pair of Sprint Races and a further Feature Race for each category.
