Brothers Markus and Charly Glume dominate podium at GK4 Kart Series in Mariembourg

MARIEMBOURG  - Markus (18) and Charly (15) Glume showcased their exceptional karting skills on Saturday during the sixth round of the GK4 Kart Series. In a remarkable display of sibling prowess at their home track in Mariembourg, Markus clinched first place in the IAME Senior class finale. Charly secured third, capping off a successful day for the duo from Nalinnes.

"Being together on the podium was very special", Charly said, reflecting on their excellent performance. The brothers maintained their dominance throughout the day, with Markus finishing second and Charly third in both heats before their podium finish in the finale.

Markus, who led the final race from start to finish, explained his strategy: "I saw Charly a few times behind me, and I thought if it's my brother behind, I can focus on the front. Before the race, we agreed that we'd push each other if we were 1-2."

The victory marks Markus's fourth win, with two in the Junior category and now the second one in the Senior class. Charly, transitioning from Juniors last year, has already secured several podiums this season. Their success is particularly sweet on their home track, where they've honed their skills.

"That’s why we knew we had a good chance to win or at least end up on the podium this weekend", Charly commented. The brothers' packed racing schedule, including recent Le Mans and Benelux series events, hasn't dampened their enthusiasm or performance.   While the Glumes don't compete in the entire GK4 season, they strategically choose their races.

"We just race in three or four races on tracks we know for training", Markus explained.   Both brothers have shown significant improvement over the past year. Markus noted, "This year has been good every time. We're always in the final and top 15 at Benelux. In GK4, I've done three races and won two."

Charly attributes their progress to participation in Euro races, which he believes has enhanced their battling skills. "My speed was good last year, but I wasn't very good at battling. This year, that's better, especially with defending", he said.

Despite their young age and relatively recent start in karting—just four years ago—the Glume brothers have quickly risen to prominence in the sport. Their proximity to Mariembourg has allowed them to gain substantial experience on their home track.

Looking ahead, the brothers have two more races this season: potentially the IWF in two weeks and the remaining GK4 event in Genk. Their rapid progress and consistent podium finishes suggest a bright karting future for Markus and Charly. Markus: "This weekend was extraordinary. Winning at our home track and sharing the podium with my brother – it doesn't get much better than that!"

The Glume brothers express their gratitude to their father and mother, mechanic Philipp Lindinger, and the CEO of Leo Car, Lionel, and Thierry of Lepinne of Euro Karting.
