Monza set to host the grand finale of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine

The Temple of Speed, Monza, is ready to host the highly anticipated final round of the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. With the drivers’ title already secured by Rafael Camara and the team title in the hands of Prema Racing, both claimed at the previous round in Barcelona, attention now turns to the remaining battles that will unfold during this final weekend of the season.

Although the main titles have been decided, fans can still expect thrilling action on track, particularly in the fight for second and third place in the overall standings. James Wharton (Prema Racing), who dominated the Spanish round with an impressive double victory, has overtaken Tuukka Taponen (R-ace GP) for second place. The Finnish driver, who remained in contention for the championship until Barcelona, now faces a new challenge as he battles the Australian for the runner-up spot. Also in the mix are Alessandro Giusti (ART Grand Prix) and Brando Badoer (Van Amersfoort Racing), both of whom are still very much in contention for a top-three finish in 2024.

The rookie standings are equally wide open, with Noah Strømsted (RPM) leading the pack, but facing fierce competition from Pedro Clerot (Van Amersfoort Racing), Evan Giltaire (ART Grand Prix), and Ivan Domingues (Van Amersfoort Racing). The battle for the prestigious Pirelli Racelience Award is also yet to be decided, with Giovanni Maschio (RPM), Marta Garcia (Iron Dames), and Nicola Lacorte (Trident) all in the running for the coveted Pirelli Wheel.

Additionally, Monza will host the presentation of the Dilano Van’t Hoff Award, a trophy created by Adam Fitzgerald, which will be awarded to the driver who made the best overtaking move, as voted by fans on the official championship Instagram page. Five overtakes, identified by Fitzgerald himself, will be up for public vote.

Action begins on Thursday with a pre-event Collective Test session from 14:00 to 18:00. On Friday, two Collective Test sessions are scheduled at 10:00 and 14:05. Saturday’s program kicks off with Qualifying 1 at 8:30, followed by Race 1 at 13:35. On Sunday, Qualifying 2 will take place at 8:30, leading into the final race of the season at 14:55.
