Fortec Motorsport’s Linus Granfors claimed his second victory of the Silverstone GB4 weekend in a delayed race two, as the Swedish driver marched into the championship lead.
After racing was halted this morning due to adverse weather conditions, race two eventually occupied the time slot of race three, with that contest set to be rescheduled later in the season, should timetable space be found at a future event.
When action finally got underway, there was more superb racing after yesterday’s thrilling opener. Elite Motorsport’s pole sitter Finn Harrison held off an opening lap challenge from Granfors, but the Fortec driver edged past on the run to Maggotts on lap two, and then blasted into the distance to complete his Silverstone clean sweep and his third in a row after triumphing in Oulton Park race three.
But Harrison was again central to the action, putting on a defensive masterclass that accounted for regular challenger Brandon McCaughan, and then kept his car as wide as possible to hold off an on-the-road challenge from McCaughan’s KMR teammate Harry Burgoyne. McCaughan spun down the order after challenging Harrison at Brooklands, and picked up a time penalty for a false start, as did Burgoyne, who finished third on the road.
All that ensured that Arden’s Leon Wilson, who enjoyed his strongest event of the season so far, completed the podium in third. Elite’s Alisha Palmowski finished fourth after fighting back from an opening lap stall and a high speed skirmish with the third KMR car of Chloe Grant, with Burgoyne taking fifth after his penalty. Fox Motorsport’s Branden Templeton claimed sixth ahead of Graham Brunton Racing’s Mayer Deonarine, with McCaughan still taking eighth despite his varying fortunes. Callum Baxter (Graham Brunton Racing) and privateer Marcus Luzio completed the top-10.
New championship leader Granfors said: "It feels great, it was a bit more chilled in this race, but it was rapid. "It was a bit slippery, out of Stowe especially, but the other corners of the track were dry so I just tried to push as hard as I could without going off the track. "This feels really good, I hope we can win many more. We’ll see what speed we have at Donington!"
