Tramnitz picks MP Motorsport for promotion to FIA Formula 3
Quick German racer Tim Tramnitz is heading for the FIA Formula 3 Championship after signing to join MP Motorsport for the 2024 season. The 19-year-old from Hamburg is the first to sign up with the Dutch team, with more announcements to follow soon.
Tramnitz recently joined the Red Bull Junior Team after completing a strong season in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA), claiming three wins, four poles and ten podiums on his way to third in the final standings. The German then made his first acquaintance with MP’s FIA F3 machine in the post-season tests at Jérez, Barcelona and Imola, quickly getting up to speed and finding himself in the top ten in the two-day Italian test. This reaffirmed to both Tramnitz and MP that they should continue into 2024.
“It’s wonderful to be able to step up to FIA Formula 3 with a team such as MP Motorsport”, said Tramnitz. “They have won in every single-seater category that they have competed in, and I’m confident that their experience will contribute to being on the pace in FIA F3 straight out of the blocks. It was a joy to test the car at those three tracks, and I worked well with the team. So now let’s translate that to the races – I can’t wait to get started!”
“We are truly happy to see Tim become a new member of our FIA Formula 3 driver line-up”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “He has been a force to be reckoned with all through his time in FRECA, so he is more than ready for his step up to the next level. The tests showed that he’s up there among the more experienced drivers. I’m sure that Tim will do the Red Bull name proud in 2024.”
Tramnitz made his single-seater bow with a bang in 2020 by immediately storming to fourth in the German F4 series. Doubling up in the Italian F4 series, the German grabbed second in both championships in 2021 before joining the hotly contested FRECA series in 2022. Building on 15th place in his debut season in this highly competitive championship, he took third in the title race in his sophomore year.
