The Electric Kart Cup Portugal leads a new initiative with the Rotax E20 for the Future of Racing

BRP-Rotax is glad to announce the first Electric Kart Cup Portugal which is organized by the FPAK (the Portuguese ASN) in cooperation with our long-term partner and authorized Rotax Karting distributor Korridas e Kompanhia and will take place at the Portimao circuit from October 21st to 23rd, 2022. The announcement represents the start of a new initiative by the national federation to actively promote the progression into a future of electric-powered motorsport, beginning from the grassroots level of ‘karting’. BRP-Rotax is proud to support the Electric Kart Cup Portugal with the first title being awarded to the champions in the Rotax Project E20 Junior and E20 Senior classes.

The inaugural Electric Kart Cup Portugal, organized by FPAK, invites competitors from around the world to be part of this special E-Karting event at the KartodrĂ³mo Internacional do Algarve, one of Europe’s largest karting circuits and the location for the 22nd edition of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals 2022 in November. 36 drivers in total will have the chance to experience the exhilaration of racing in the Rotax Project E20 E-Kart with its impressive power and torque, parity and overall performance plus the added ‘Boost’ feature, making the competition even more strategic and fun.

“The Electric Kart Cup Portugal is a project of great importance for FPAK. We all know that environmental and sustainability issues are the order of the day all over the world, and that’s why we try, as much as possible, to make our sport more adjusted to today’s reality,” explains Ni Amorim, FPAK President. “In addition, combining the electric aspect with karting makes total sense, as it also allows us to promote the category that is the basis of motorsport and make known a reality that is beginning to gain strength. Furthermore, this project makes even more sense when the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals takes place in Portimao. For us, it is important to follow the line of success that is already seen in other countries and implement it in Portugal.”

There are also four RMCGF 2022 tickets to win! Rotax is offering the champions in the E20 Junior and E20 Senior classes their ticket to race in Portimao from November 19th to 26th when almost 400 drivers will participate at the season highlight on the Rotax racing calendar. In addition, the best-placed Portuguese or Spanish driver in each of the E20 categories will be awarded a ticket as well.

On the weekend of October 21st to 23rd, the Electric Kart Cup Portugal is scheduled on the program at the closing round of the RMC Portugal (Campeonato de Portugal Rotax). This is the last opportunity for any drivers qualified for the RMCGF to race on the technical Algarve circuit in the lead-up to the end-of-year event. It is possible to enter in both the Rotax 125 Junior MAX and the Project E20 Junior or alternatively a double registration in the Rotax 125 Senior MAX and the Project E20 Senior.

Further information about the ‘Arrive & Drive’ Race Packages, including the detailed list of everything from the Sodi Sigma DD2 chassis equipped with Rotax E-powertrain to the race/practice MOJO D5 tyres, the entry and track fees, Rotax team awning and full trackside support, shared data analysis and hospitality refreshments, plus what you need to bring, what is not included, class weights and age limits, license requirements and extra practice package, etc. is all online at www.korridas.com

“When we contacted the FPAK to organize this event with the Rotax Project E20, they immediately supported the idea because they recognise it is an important step for the introduction of electric karting in Portugal. Having the Electric Kart Cup in Portugal organized by FPAK, shows that the ASN’s are interested in supporting this as a future option, helping to promote the initiative on a national level and consequently, the further development of these categories,” says Arnaldo Frias of Korridas e Kompanhia, Rotax Karting distributor for Portugal and Spain. “Rotax made a significant step with the Project E20, proving there is a good, reliable, competitive and ‘fun to drive’ solution for the E-kart. With the introduction of a Junior class, we’re convinced that ‘electric’ will be a familiar word in karting, as it is in other disciplines of motorsport.”
