The candidates to the win of the WSK Champions Cup

In Lonato, the provisional leaders of the WSK Champions Cup after the heats are Senna Van Walstijn in KZ2, Danny Carenini in OK, Dmitry Matveev in OKJ and Jindrich Pesl in MINI. Prefinals and Finals in Live Streaming on Sunday, January 23.

The final heats have been run on Saturday at the South Garda Karting circuit and named the main protagonists of the WSK Champions Cup that is underway in Lonato this weekend. The first round of this international karting series counts 170 drivers from 36 nations.

After qualifying practice and the initial heats on Friday, the battles on track resumed on Saturday with several exciting battles among the main contenders to the final win. The finalists will challenge each other on Sunday, January 23 with Prefinals in the new configuration first before the Finals will name the first winners of MINI, OKJ, OK and KZ2. 

 

 

Senna Van Walstijn dominates KZ2.
KZ2 has been dominated by the Dutch Senna Van Walstijn (Sodikart/Sodikart-TM Racing-Vega) so far. He won all the three heats run in the shifter category. His teammate from France Emilien Denner (Sodikart/Sodikart-TM Racing) at the comeback with Sodikart, the German David Trefilov (Maranello SRP/Maranello-TM Racing) and the Italian Matteo Zanchi (Zanchi Motorsport/BirelArt-TM Racing) were among the quickest and are ready to challenge Van Walstijn for the final win. It will not be easy, but the challenge is definitely on.   

Classification after the heats: 1. Van Walstijn pen. 0; 2. Trefilov 10; 3. Zanchi 10; 4. Denner 11; 5. Carbonnel 14; 6. Stell 21; 7. Kajak 25; 8. Paparo 32.

 

Carenini leads OK from Popov to Pavan.
After the pole position claimed by the Italian Sebastiano Pavan (Team Driver/KR-Iame-LeCont), the classification lead went to his teammate Danny Carenini, who is at the debut with Team Driver. He won in fact both qualifying heats. The Russian Maksimilian Popov (Ward Racing/Tony Kart-Vortex) came to the fore in the third heat winning from Carenini to Pavan. Carenini leads the pack as he scored two wins and a second place.

Classification after the heats: 1. Carenini pen. 2; 2. Popov 6; 3. Pavan 7; 4. Arnold 14; 5. Irfan 23; 6. Marenghi 23; 7. Obst 23; 8. Babaioana 24.  

 

The Russian Dmitry Matveev shines in OK-Junior.
In OKJ the Russian Dmitry Matveev (Koski Motorsport/Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) secured the pole position in qualifying and won all the three heats. The Italian Emanuele Olivieri (IPK/IPK-TM Racing) put in a strong performance too, despite being at his first experience with Junior. After two second places, Olivieri had to settle for P4 in the third heat and was therefore overtaken by the Brit Nathan Tye (Sodikart/Sodikart-TM Racing) in the provisional standings. The driver from Peru Andres Cardenas (Energy Corse/Energy-TM Racing) and Singapore’s Tiziano Monza (DPK/KR-Iame) were also among the fastest despite being protagonists of MINI in recent times.

Classification after the heats: 1. Matveev pen. 0; 2. Tye 9; 3. Olivieri 10; 4. Cardenas 13; 5. Monza 17; 6. Dzitiev 20; 7. Bogunovic 24; 8. Minetto 26.

 

MINI led by an excellent Jindrich Pesl.
MINI Gr.3 confirmed to be quite exciting. Among all, the fast driver from Czech Republic Jindrich Pesl (BabyRace/Parolin-Iame-Vega) claimed the pole position and won all the 5 heats ending therefore with 0 penalties. A lot of other drivers are ready to challenge him for the victory though, like the Spaniard Christian Costoya (Parolin Motorsport/Parolin-TM Racing-Vega) and the Romanian David Cosma-Cristofor (Gulstar Racing/KR-Iame). Both drivers secured three wins each in the heats.

Classification after the heats: 1. Pesl pen. 0; 2. Costoya 2; 3. Cosma-Cristofor D. 11; 4. Martinese 12; 5. Hoogendoorn 13; 6. Schaufler 14; 7. Bottaro 16; 8. Josseron 19.
