Swedish E-Kart Championship joins Porsche Carrera Cup Program at the Historical Kanonloppet Race

The second edition of the Swedish Championship for the Rotax E20 E-Kart will take place at the new Gellerasen Arena karting track at Karlskoga, incorporated into Sweden’s oldest motor racing circuit, on August 15-17. Two Rotax E20 classes will be closely contested at the historical ‘Kanonloppet’ (Canon Race), which was first run almost 75 years ago, together with the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and an extensive motorsport program with an estimated 10,000 spectators attending. There are RMC Grand Finals 2024 tickets, trophies, prizemoney plus a Porsche watch to be won!

Following the official launch in 2023 of the new Gellerasen Arena kart circuit at the ‘Kanonloppet’, where Porsche and DD2 racer Prince Carl Philip of Sweden cut the ribbon while driving the Rotax E20, the idea was born to bring the E-Karts back to Karlskoga. Showcasing professional electric karting to thousands of motorsport fans at this amazing event is going to be a unique race for karting in general and for the Rotax E20 in particular. With incredible power, instant acceleration and a cool ‘Boost’ feature for added race strategy, this high-performing electric kart is simply adrenaline-fuelled fun. It has to be experienced to be believed! The attractive ‘Arrive & Drive’ concept combines a full race package that includes use of the E20 E-Kart, technical support and data analysis from the Rotax team, pit garage work space and lots more, so every competitor can basically just turn up and race!

The success of the first-ever Swedish Championship for E-Kart in 2022 at GTR Motorpark, Eskilstuna, set the stage for the winners to achieve the ultimate goal; Jesper Sjöberg (E20 Senior) and Joel Bergström (E20 Junior) went on to take the top Rotax title in their respective classes at the RMC Grand Finals in Portugal later that season. Local competitors now have the same opportunity to secure the national title and represent Team Sweden. International drivers are invited to test their skills and experience this incredible event in 2024, with an equal chance to take the victory and be rewarded with a ticket to the Rotax Racing season highlight in the E20 Senior and E20 Masters field.

The final race winner in E20 Senior (14 years +) and the leading E20 Masters (32 years +) driver will qualify to represent their country at the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals at Circuito Internazionale Napoli in Sarno, Italy, from December 19-26. The prize-giving for the Swedish E-Kart Championship will be held together with the Porsche Carrera Cup podium ceremony, where Prince Carl Philip and the President of the SBF will present the fantastic awards. The national Swedish champions will be crowned in both the Rotax E20 Senior and E20 Masters, with the top three in each class receiving their prizes at the annual SBF (Swedish Automobile Sports Federation) Bilsportgala.

“The Swedish E-Kart Championship will show what electric-powered karting is all about and the close competition it creates, where the driver really makes the difference,” explains Marie Radne, Radne Motor AB / Authorised Distributor for Rotax Kart products in Sweden and race organiser for the E20. “BRP-Rotax offers an exciting new alternative in karting in an effort to move towards more sustainable racing. Hopefully, this will open up for even bigger acceptance of the sport for the future and this can be a next step. Introducing the Rotax E20 at this special event – to crown the 2024 Swedish Champions – is an initiative that brings modern karting alongside an impressive motorsport line-up over the weekend at the Kanonloppet.” Ms. Radne added, “We are really proud to make this happen again and also to integrate it with other racing categories at the same event.”

The promoter of the popular Prince Carl Philip’s Racing Trophy is responsible for the Swedish event again in collaboration with the SBF, Gellerasen Arena, Rotax, Radne, Karlskoga MF, Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and partners. VIP packages for competitor sponsors and guests are available.  Be sure to follow all the racing action via the livestream on YouTube.
