Super Lorenzo Patrese at Monza
At the Temple of Speed Lorenzo Patrese took all three pole positions for the last round of the season.
It will be Lorenzo Patrese who will start from pole position on the Monza track. The son of the six time Formula One Grand Prix winner Riccardo, fighting for the rookie championship, sets the fastest lap on the circuit which, in 1984, saw his father Riccardo stand on the third step of the podium in the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix with Alfa Romeo. For Lorenzo Patrese, Monza marks the first pole position of his career and in the three races of the last round of the season he will have the advantage of starting at the front of the grid.
In the first qualifying, the Italian, driving for AKM Motorsport, stopped the clock with a time of 1'53.206, 0.1 seconds better than the 2021 Italian Champion, Oliver Bearman, who arrived in Monza in the morning after competing in the final phase of the prestigious “2021 Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award”. In race 1 it will be an all-pink second row with the two Muecke Motorsport cars of Joshua Durksen and Erick Zuniga that will start side by side in front of two contenders for the overall podium: Sebastian Montoya (Prema Powerteam) and Tim Tramnitz (US Racing). Seventh quickest time for the Mugello poleman Joshua Dufek (Van Amersfoort Racing) who will be joined by Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Prema Powerteam), second among the rookies. To complete the top 10 Vlad Lomko (US Racing) and Hamda Al Qubaisi (Prema Powerteam) 0.5 and 0.6 seconds away from the poleman Patrese. 19 drivers were covered by less than a second with 32 drivers out of 35 in within a margin of less than 2 seconds.
In the second race, alongside Patrese, will be Leonardo Fornaroli (Iron Lynx) who sets his best time of 1’52.823, just 0.122 seconds off the poleman. An all Prema Powerteam second row in race 2 with Sebastian Montoya ahead of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, while the third row will be occupied by US Racing drivers Tim Tramnitz and Vlad Lomko. Only seventh is Oliver Bearman (Van Amersfoort Racing) who will be joined by the Russian Prema Powerteam driver Kirill Smal who is the first of a Prema trio with Hamda Al Qubaisi ninth and Conrad Laursen tenth.
In race 3, the last of the season which will start on Sunday at 10.05 am, Patrese will have Andrea Kimi Antonelli alongside him, in an all-Italian front row made up of rookies. Second row for Leonardo Fornaroli and Tim Tramnitz in front of Kirill Smal and Hamda Al Qubaisi who, at the Temple of Speed, is looking very competitive.
Race 1 will start tomorrow at 11.30 am, while race 2 will start at 5.20 pm at dusk.
