Sid Smith joins Fox Motorsport GB4 line-up for 2023

Fox Motorsport has announced that new Fiesta Junior Champion Sid Smith will step up to the team’s all-new GB4 Championship line-up in 2023. The 16-year-old, who will race alongside Liam McNeilly, is no stranger to Fox Motorsport. The team is based just a few miles from his home in Maldon, Essex - and he contested three Ginetta Junior events with the team during the latter stages of this year.

Debuting in the main championship at Silverstone in September, he scored a magnificent top-six finish in the Rookie category and improved on that with a pair of class podiums in the Winter Series at Brands Hatch and third place in the standings.

Between events, he clinched the BRSCC Fiesta Junior title with six victories and 15 podium finishes across the 17-race season.  Sid, son of Le Mans 24 Hours class winner Rob Smith, is supported by Green Recycling and Romac Logistics. Fox Motorsport recently took delivery of three Tatuus chassis and intend to run an additional driver alongside Sid and Liam in 2023.

Sid Smith said: “I’m so excited to step up to GB4 next year. It’s a totally new challenge for me and one I can’t wait for. Racing a single-seater will be totally different to either the Ginetta or the Fiesta. Having the experience of racing the Ginetta and getting used to rear-wheel-drive is already a huge help and having the consistency of having done a few events with Fox Motorsport means I’ve built some key relationships in the team. I now have plenty of time to step-up my physical and mental preparation for the new season and I’ll be spending hitting the sim and the gym pretty hard. Bring on April.”

Fox Motorsport Team Principal Paul McNeilly said: “We’re delighted that Sid will be staying with us at Fox Motorsport as we each tackle a full season in single-seater racing for the first time. His progress since stepping into a Ginetta Junior car has been rapid and the experience of hugely intense pack racing and rear-wheel-drive has been hugely important in adding to what he’s learnt in Fiestas. In Sid and Liam we have a strong line-up of rookies, but rookies nonetheless so we’ll be using all the time we can over the winter to make sure both are fully prepared for the new season.”
