Shootout winner Brandon McCaughan joins KMR Sport for GB4 debut

Leading Formula Ford racer Brandon McCaughan has confirmed that he will make his GB4 debut in 2024 with reigning champions KMR Sport.

McCaughan, the most recent winner of GB4’s Shootout for Formula Ford contenders, finished fourth in the National Formula Ford Championship last year, with victories at Oulton Park and Kirkistown. The Northern Ireland-based contender has enjoyed a varied career that started in Irish Rallysprinting and Rallycross as a junior, before moving into single-seaters in 2021 with an appearance in the Formula Ford Festival.

A full-season campaign followed in 2022, finishing seventh overall and qualifying for the first GB4 Shootout, where he experienced slicks and wings machinery for the first time. Remaining in the National Formula Ford Championship last year, he claimed his first race wins, with the season culminating in an eighth-place finish in the Formula Ford Festival.

He then impressed during his second GB4 Shootout appearance, showing significant improvements compared to the previous year, and claiming the £20,000 prize contribution from series promotor MotorSport Vision (MSV).

The 20-year-old is now gearing up for his first race appearances in GB4, and does so with double GB4 teams’ champions KMR Sport, who also claimed drivers’ honours last year with Tom Mills. McCaughan joins Harry Burgoyne at the Gloucestershire-based outfit, as the squad aims to maintain its excellent form in GB4.

Brandon McCaughan said: “I’m very excited to be on the grid this year, off the back of my success in the Shootout at the end of last year. We’ve been looking to create a deal over the winter, and I’m beyond excited to be joining the reigning champions. I’ve only had two days in the GB4 car over the past couple of years, but I’m looking forward to getting going at Oulton Park, where I’ll work with KMR Sport to continue my development with slicks and wings cars. I’m hoping to get to the sharp end of the grid as soon as possible, and will work as hard as I can to get there.”

Team Principal Kevin Mills said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Brandon to our GB4 team. He has some decent slicks and wings experience courtesy of his two appearances in the Shootout, and we’re looking forward to getting started with him. Having raced against him in Formula Ford previously, we’ve been able to see his ability, and with our help we’re confident we can accelerate his adaptation to slicks and wings and get him as close to the front of the field as possible.”
