Recent decisions of the FIA World Motor Sport Council concerning Karting

At its meeting on 4th October 2019 in Cologne (DEU), the FIA World Motor Sport Council took the following decisions on the basis of the proposals of the International Karting Commission.

CIK-FIA TECHNICAL REGULATIONS

Article 2.5.1.1 concerning the front fairing has been updated. Implementation on 1st January 2020.

 

SPECIFIC CIK-FIA PRESCRIPTIONS

Article 18 - Conduct of an FIA Karting Championship Competition has been updated with regard to the absence of a transponder. Implementation on 1st January 2020.

Article 18D concerning the Final phase has been updated. The starting grid of a Final will have 36 drivers. Implementation on 1st January 2020.

 

NUMBER OF TYRES

At the FIA Karting Championships and Cups (Superkart and Academy Trophy excepted), the number of "slick" tyres reserved for Free Practice and Warm-Up is not limited. During the Qualifying Practice and the Qualifying Heats, 1.5 sets of new slick tyres (3 front tyres and 3 rear tyres) may be used. A new set of slick tyres must be used for the Final. Implementation on 1st January 2020.

 

CLOSURE OF CIRCUITS BEFORE A COMPETITION

At the FIA Karting Championships and Cups (Superkart and Academy Trophy excepted), the circuit will be closed to all Drivers and competition karts for any activity on the track, from the Monday of the week preceding the FIA Karting Competition to the Wednesday of the week in which it takes place. Implementation on 1st January 2020.

During the FIA Karting Academy Trophy, the circuit will be closed to all Drivers and competition karts for any activity on the track, from the Monday of the week preceding the FIA Karting Competition to the Thursday (first Competition excepted) of the week in which it takes place. Implementation on 1st January 2020.
