Rafael Camara secures thrilling pole position at Monza in Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine

Prema Racing‘s Rafael Camara delivered a remarkable performance this morning, storming to an electrifying pole position during the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine qualifying session at Monza. Camara posted the fastest lap time in the closing moments of the Group B session, achieving his third pole and matching his teammate, as well as the championship leader, Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

The Brazilian driver displayed his dominance by setting a blistering pace, clocking in just over one tenth faster than his closest rival, Marcus Amand of ART Grand Prix, who secured a spot on the front row due to his Group A lead.

This marks the best-ever qualifying result for the French driver in the series, who skillfully managed to overtake Antonelli himself, who will start on the second row alongside Alessandro Giusti in the first heat of this afternoon. The representative of the G4 Racing team continues to build on the good performances shown last weekend at the Red Bull Ring, where he secured his second win of the season and his second pole position.

Michael Belov also stood out, showcasing his comfort in the temple of speed, where he secured a silver medal last year. The G4 Racing team’s representative, after battling for pole position with Camara, secured the third row, shared with the German driver Tim Tramnitz (R-ace GP), who will start from the sixth spot on the grid.

Owen Tangavelou of Trident Motorsport secured the seventh position in the combined grid, while RPM‘s Maceo Capietto will start eighth alongside his compatriot. MP Motorsport’s Victor Bernier and Sami Meguetounif completed the top-10.

Rafael Camara expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, “ It was a good quali. Especially in Monza, where it’s quite tricky to get a lap, cause everyone is trying to look for the slipstream. It was a bit of a mess in the end, but we managed well to be in the right position. I think also the Team did a really good job, the car was very good. Everything was perfect, I’m happy about this quali”.
