Bart Luijkx / Thursday, March 24, 2022 / Categories: News, Singleseater Race Preview Formula 2 Jeddah: New challenge for Richard Verschoor and Trident The FIA Formula 2 Championship will complete the back-to-back Middle Eastern Stint that kicked off the 2022 season with round 2. This weekend, the F2 cars will be racing at the high-speed Saudi Arabian Jeddah track, which returns to the calendar less than four months after joining the series in November 2021. The temporary circuit, sporting the highest average speeds of the season, was upgraded compared to last year. The final corner was widened and the barriers were moved back to improve safety and visibility. Turn 13 keeps its 12-degree banking which further increases the circuit’s pace. The Jeddah track is 6.174-kilometer long and is the longest of the season after Spa-Francorchamps. Being close to the seaside, it might be hit by sand debris carried by the wind. Trident Motorsport approaches the second round of the season coming from the win secured by Richard Verschoor in the Sakhir Sprint Race and solid general performance with both drivers. Verschoor will aim to keep consistent in Jeddah and carry on the same early form, while Calan Williams, who was highly promising in Bahrain, wants to break the ice and secure his first points of the season. The drivers worked hard with the team’s technical staff to prepare for the upcoming event. Now it’s time for racing to decide! Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: “We are lining up at Jeddah following a solid debut round at Sakhir. Compared to Bahrain, we will be running on a very different track this weekend. Jeddah is an extremely fast venue with sharp changes of direction. The cars also stay full-throttle for most of the lap. The Trident Motorsport car showed a high competitive level in Bahrain. In Saudi Arabia, our goal is to continue to learn and grow, so to extract all the potential we have and maximize any opportunity that might arise”. The FIA Formula 2 Championship will start on Friday at 14:25 with the 45-minute Free Practice session. The same day will feature qualifying at 18:30. Sprint Race 1 will be on Saturday at 15:30, while the Feature Race, the final one for the weekend, will be on Sunday at 16:35. The action will be covered by the Sky Sports networks. Times are local, CET-2.
