Nikhil Bohra teams up with MP Motorsport for repeat FRECA and FRMEC attack

Indian American racer Nikhil Bohra has switched to MP Motorsport for a second season in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) and the Formula Regional Middle East Championship (FRMEC). The New York City-born resident of Singapore has signed to join the Dutch outfit’s three-car team, with the previously announced Valerio Rinicella as one of his teammates.

Following his promising debut season, Bohra had his first taste of MP Motorsport’s FRECA machine in the mid-November test at Mugello, where he immediately joined the frontrunners with a respective second and fourth best time on the two days. In the subsequent Imola test, Bohra went on to confirm his pace with fourth fastest time. Moving to Barcelona for a two-day mid-December test, Bohra once again proved to be a firm top-five fixture in the bulk of the sessions.

The young American’s fine form in testing gave both sides the confidence to ink a deal for Bohra’s sophomore season in FRECA. With Valerio Rinicella and Nikhil Bohra now set for two of MP’s seats, the team is looking forward to signing another strong contender for the third seat.

“It’s great news that I will be an MP Motorsport driver in my second season in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine”, said Bohra. “I want to prove myself in this highly competitive series that is the premier stepping stone to FIA Formula 3 and Formula 2, and MP have a winning record in every single-seater championship in which they compete. In testing, I gelled well with the team, resulting in a strong pace that I intend to translate into a consistent points-scoring run once the season gets underway. I can’t wait to get started!”

“I’m extremely pleased to welcome Nikhil into our FRECA squad”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “He’s shown well in his debut season, ending up on the podium on his very first weekend at Imola, and then in testing with us proved that he’s the real deal by consistently showing up at the top of the timesheets and helping the team forward with powerful feedback. He will form a solid partnership with Valerio and our soon to be announced third driver. We are going to have a great FRECA season with them.”

Following a successful career in karting as Asian Rok and IAME champion, Singapore resident Bohra made his single-seater debut at the end of 2021, when he took in the final round of the German F4 Championship and in America competed in the Skip Barber Formula Racing Series. For 2022, he switched to Italian F4, in the meantime continuing with a part programme in German F4 while also competing in the Indian Racing League and the UAE F4 Championship, claiming multiple poles and wins on his way to claiming the team championship in the former. Another win and multiple podiums followed in the 2023 Formula Regional Middle East Championship before the American completed a promising first season in FRECA, claiming a podium and leading his team in points on the way to 12th in the final standings.
