Mitchell Koolen / Thursday, June 11, 2020 / Categories: News, International Motorsport South Africa: COVID-19 communique MSA is aware that the Regulations published on 28 May 2020 in the government gazette allow professional non-contact sport to continue under the published regulations “… as per directions issued by the Cabinet member responsible for sport….”. These directions are yet to be published. MSA has made a formal submission to government in connection with the resumption of motorsport and is awaiting a response. It should however be noted that there are additional issues that will potentially complicate the resumption of motorsport on a regional or national level. In the main, these are the restrictions on the movement of persons across provincial boundaries, the restrictions on overnight accommodation and the alert levels surrounding Covid-19 “hotspots”. It is therefore possible that, when motorsport is permitted to resume, it may only be at local club level initially. Any further developments from government affecting our sport will be communicated to all stakeholders as and when they become available.
