Latest FIA World Motor Sport Council decisions concerning the gearbox kart category

At its meeting on 11th December 2024, the FIA World Motor Sport Council took the following decisions on the basis of proposals from the International Karting Commission.

 

Reinforcing the top-level status of the KZ Category

In FIA Karting Competitions of the gearbox kart premier category, any Driver whose best lap during Qualifying Practice exceeds 102% of the pole position time will not be allowed to take part in the Qualifying Heats and the Final phase.

However, under exceptional circumstances, which may include the achievement of a suitable time in a previous Free Practice session, the stewards may, on request, allow the Driver to continue in the competition.

Implementation on 1st January 2025

 

Quarantine period for high-level drivers before they can compete in the KZ2 Masters Category

Drivers who, in the last 30 months, have competed in an FIA Karting Championship in the KZ category, or have finished in the top 15 of an FIA Karting Championship, Cup or Trophy in the KZ2 category, will not be allowed to enter KZ2 Masters in an FIA Karting event. This rule is applicable from 1st January 2025, with no retroactive effect for Drivers who have competed in FIA Karting events in KZ2 Masters in previous seasons.

 

Align the procedure for KZ qualifying heats with the other categories

The starting order in all KZ qualifying heats in FIA Karting Competitions (European and World Championships) will now be that of Qualifying Practice, as in all other categories.

Implementation on 1st January 2025
