Kart Lounge to Sponsor Unique 206 Senior Shootout Friday at WKA Gold Cup Charlotte Opener

A special 206 Senior Shootout presented by Kart Lounge will kick off competition at the upcoming return of the WKA Gold Cup Series set for June 24-26 at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s 0.6-mile kart track.

The first contest of the weekend will be a unique elimination-style race taking place after the conclusion of Friday practice. The Shootout, marking the first Gold Cup race since 2016, will boast a $700 cash purse plus a trophy check going to the winner and will surely not be like any other kart race in recent memory.

The 206 Senior Shootout race format will be as follows.

Drivers will participate in a random draw to determine the starting lineup. Once the race goes green, at the end of every three laps, the caution flag will be waved and the last two karts in the running order will be signalled off the track. The race will go green again for three more circuits when the yellow will wave again. The last two karts will be removed. The race will continue in these three-lap segments until only two or three karts remain, depending on how many karts start, with a final three-lap shootout to determine the winner.

The minimum weight will be 370 pounds with a $55 entry fee.

In another unique twist, the Shootout will take place on the Charlotte “fast-track,” which will cut out the first left-right-left after Turn 1 and the next left-right-left before the backstretch to make for an ultra-fast version of CMS’s kart track.

Kart Lounge — a news and media source for sprint and road race karting — has joined WKA to sponsor the Shootout.

“We like what WKA is doing with the return of the Gold Cup and we wanted to get involved,” Kart Lounge’s Keith Shampine said. “The 206 Senior Shootout seemed like the perfect opportunity. It’s a very creative format and should provide some exciting action for both racers and spectators. We’re really looking forward to the Shootout and the entire weekend of racing.”
