Half-time of the German Electric Kart Championship

Three weeks after a thrilling racing weekend in Kerpen, the German Electric Kart Championship is going to continue in Belgian Genk from 2nd to 4th of August. There, the drivers from seven nations are going to start into the second half of the season of the first Electric Kart Championship in the world.

The driver to beat: Luka Wlömer

The first two races of the DEKM had all the ingredients of a thrilling blockbuster. Sun, rain and close position fights caused high tension in all four ranked races. The best driver so far was Berlin resident Luka Wlömer (133 points). With three out of four possible victories, he already has got quite an advance on the overall list of rankings. Behind him in the championship follow Joel Sturm (96) and Jasin Ferati (83).

Leading driver Wlömer is excitedly looking forward to the races in Genk: “I was already successful there last year and want to tie in with this. The power density is currently really high and it’s a lot of fun to drive.”

Equal chances make for thrilling races

No driver of the German Electric Kart Championship can take it easy. Due to the unified Rotax THUNDeR E-karts, the driving abilities and the small setup possibilities alone are crucial. In Kerpen, as many as eight E-karts were really close together temporarily and the final decision was only reached during the last lap.

Mick Kappler returns – Finn Gehrsitz gives his debut

Two guest drivers are going to start this time as well. For one, Mick Kappler returns to the DEKM. He was already a regular driver during the premiere season last year. Next to him, Finn Gehrsitz is going to break new ground – he started at the Rotax MAX Challenge so far and became German vice-champion in 2016.

The racing events from Genk are going to be accompanied on Saturday and Sunday by an extensive coverage via online live-stream at www.dekm.de.
