F4 title challenger McKenzy Cresswell steps up to GB3 with Chris Dittmann Racing

Multiple British F4 race-winner McKenzy Cresswell will join Chris Dittmann Racing (CDR) as he steps up to the GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC in 2022. The 15-year-old won six British F4 races in 2021, two more than any other driver, with five additional podiums on his way to third overall in the standings in his first car racing campaign.

Finishing just 26 points away from the eventual champion and only a solitary point away from the runner-up, Cresswell’s first victory came at Oulton Park after a dominant performance that saw him take the flag five seconds clear of the opposition. A further win came next time out at Knockhill, before sensational doubles at Croft and at the season finale at Brands Hatch.

Cresswell was born in the UK but raised in Austin, Texas, and was competing in karting across the USA at regional and national level before moving back to the UK at the age of 12. His racing activity continued in Britain and Europe at Junior Rotax level before his successful graduation to F4 at the start of 2021. Now focusing on the step up to GB3, the Surrey resident has enjoyed several days of testing since the conclusion of the season and is looking forward to making his series graduation alongside Branden Oxley in the team, with CDR’s final seat set to be filled imminently too.

Cresswell said: “The aim was always to step up to GB3 and there were several options on the table. Over the past three years, CDR has been one of the most successful teams in GB3 with many wins and podiums. They also have a very collaborative and structured method for developing the car and driver so it’s a great fit for me. “We’ve got a solid pre-season testing programme in place so we should be well-prepared come the start of the season. The GB3 car is cool to drive, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve as a team next year.”

CDR Team Principal Chris Dittmann said: “We’re delighted to confirm McKenzy in our GB3 team for 2022. We’ve been following his progress very closely over the last year and he did an excellent job to win more races than any other driver in his first F4 season. “We tested him at Snetterton recently, he did an outstanding job and fitted into the team so well. We were very keen to finalise a deal with him and are extremely excited to have him with us for next year. Working with Branden, I think we’ve got a very talented driver line-up and we can’t wait to get our testing programme underway after Christmas. “Interest in our final seat is extremely high and we’re very excited to finalise our full driver line up in the coming weeks.”
