Coffs Coast is calling for karting’s best this weekend

The Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club is set to host round four of the 2024 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship presented by Castrol this weekend.  The event marks the first time the Coffs Harbour Club will host a round of this prestigious Championship, making it the 19th venue in the history of Australia’s multi-round National Karting Championship.

The venue recently underwent a significant extension and upgrade courtesy of a grant through the NSW Government’s Multi-sport Community Facility Fund, with the new layout proving to be a hit among drivers.  This is highlighted by the fact that 400 entries have been received across the eight classes being contested, with competitors travelling from all across Australia, New Zealand, and several parts of Asia.

In the elite KZ2 category, presented by GoPro, the competition is fierce. Two-time Champion Josh Fife currently holds a slender 12-point lead over reigning Champion Sam Dicker, with Victorian Henry Johnstone remaining within striking distance in third place.

In the top junior class, KA2, Sydneysider Lewis Cordato has demonstrated remarkable consistency to lead the standings. Meanwhile, the Cadet 9 class has seen three different winners in as many rounds, leaving a mere five-point gap between the top three competitors as they enter this penultimate round.

The inclusion of the Coffs Harbour venue on the schedule has also ensured that local drivers can test themselves against the best drivers on home soil with 15 members of the local Club set to line up on the grid. Practice sessions will begin on Thursday afternoon, followed by qualifying on Friday. Heat races are scheduled for Saturday, with the finals taking place from lunchtime on Sunday.

The Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club, located on Phil Hawthorne Drive, Coffs Harbour, is prepared to welcome spectators, offering free admission for all. For those unable to attend in person, all the action will be streamed live on www.watchmysportlive.tv on Saturday and Sunday.
