Christian Lundgaard signs new deal with ART Grand Prix for 2021 FIA F2 campaign

Christian Lundgaard has penned a fresh deal at ART Grand Prix, with the French outfit announcing that the Alpine Junior will compete for them in the 2021 campaign, extending their partnership to three years. The Dane first teamed up with ART in the 2019 Formula 3 Championship, finishing sixth with one win, two podiums and two poles overall.

The team rewarded the now 19-year-old with promotion into Formula 2 and he impressed in his rookie campaign, finishing seventh with two wins, six podiums and one pole.

“2020 was my rookie year in the FIA Formula 2, which is the series just under Formula 1,” said Lundgaard. “I've learned a lot on and off track. It was a tough year in terms of results in the end, but we had more podiums than we had in 2019 in F3.

“It shows us that with everything put together we can make it work and that’s why we are still here together. We believe in each other and we want the same thing. I need to thank everyone involved to make it possible to compete on such level with such a team. Thank you, everybody!”

Lundgaard initially came to prominence in the SMP and Spanish Formula 4 Championships, winning them both with MP Motorsport in 2017. He then moved onto Formula Renault Eurocup, finishing second in his rookie season.

Son of 2000 European Rally Champion Henrik Lundgaard, the 19-year-old first joined the Alpine academy programme in 2017.

Team Principal Sébastien Philippe added: “Christian's natural talent once again exploded in F2, he put in some very strong performances. Already during the first weekend in Austria, he impressed by setting the fourth fastest time in qualifying, even though he was unable to take part in the interseason tests in Bahrain.

“Three weekends before the end of the championship, he was in the race for the title, but the last two races cost us dearly. In 2021, Christian will have all the assets he needs to fight for the title.”
