Canadian champion Callum Baxter joins GB4 with Graham Brunton Racing
Canadian Formula Ford champion Callum Baxter has confirmed he will step up to the GB4 Championship in 2024 with Graham Brunton Racing.
The 17-year-old will make his first venture into slicks and wings competition with the Scottish team, off the back of an extremely impressive 2023 campaign in his homeland, which saw him claim the F1600 Canada title and finish as runner-up in the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship.
His campaign included a sensational weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix-supporting rounds at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with a win and two further podiums in front of the F1 paddock. Further success came at the Grand Prix de Tros-Rivieres in August, with two victories and a second place finish, with two fastest laps.
His multiple successes last year followed a strong start to his single-seater career in 2022, having earned the runner-up spot in F1600 Canada, plus the Rookie of the Year honour in both that series and the Toyo Tires category. His formative career saw him claim 10 karting titles between 2017 and 2021, having competed in Canada, the USA and in Bahrain.
The Halifax, Nova Scotia racer has also proven a strong competitor in sports cars, having won the Canada GT2 title in 2022, and was a race-winner in a Corvette last year. Baxter arrives in GB4 with the backing of Road 2 Racing, a Canadian driver development network of donors and sponsors which aims to assist young Canadian athletes with their sporting career development.
Having arrived in the UK, Baxter is now gearing up for a comprehensive pre-season testing campaign at many of the venues he’s set to compete at this year.
Callum Baxter said: "I'm very excited about this opportunity. Racing in the UK is every young driver’s dream. Obviously a huge challenge awaits, and I am very fortunate to be surrounded with incredible support. Graham Brunton Racing is a fantastic team to be with, and their experience will really help me. Road to Racing has also played an important role, along with my family, in making this year happen. I am incredibly thankful to everyone. Now I can't wait to get this year started.
Team Principal Graham Brunton said: “We’ve worked with a lot of exciting young drivers over the past few years, but we’re massively excited to have Callum with us in GB4 this year. His record speaks for itself, and having won a lot in karting, he’s continued to do that in cars, and I have no doubt that he will continue that upward trajectory with us in 2024.”
