Alex Connor confirms GB3 comeback with Arden Motorsport
Podium finisher Alex Connor will return to the GB3 Championship with Arden Motorsport in 2022.
The 17-year old Dubai-based Brit raced in the first half of the 2021 season with the team, and showed impressive form with a string of podium finishes towards the end of his first stint in the championship.
Connor proved he was a front-running contender with second place at Silverstone and then two podiums at Donington Park. He was just three tenths of a second away from taking victory at the home of the British Grand Prix, and then with boosted confidence, turned an excellent qualifying performance at Donington Park into third and then second place finishes in the first two races.
Prior to his British F3 graduation, Connor had been a front-runner in British F4, finishing second in the rookie category in 2019 before finishing fourth overall in 2020 thanks to three wins, while also taking five further podiums and two pole positions.
He also tasted success in front of the F1 paddock in 2019, with a win in the UAE F4 support round for that year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Before his graduation to car racing, Connor had been a champion karter, taking the title in the 2016 UAE X30 Cadet category.
After missing half a season of racing, Connor is determined to make a mark on his GB3 return.
He commented: “I am really looking forward to competing in GB3 this season with Arden again. I feel like pre-season testing has gone really well getting familiar with the new car and making some good progress. My first stint in the championship was really strong for me so I will be trying my best again this year.”
Arden Motorsport Team Manager Jack Woodhouse said: “The whole team has been buoyed with Alex's return to Arden. We know Alex has what it takes to be at the front, as he has proved throughout his racing career. His hard work, commitment and continued development will be key to a successful championship campaign. We have every confidence that his approach and attitude will allow the team to push for a serious title challenge.”
