WKA Charlotte Karting Challenge Gets Underway This Weekend

With COVID-19 putting a hold on motorsports around the world for more than three months, it is finally time for the World Karting Association (WKA) to return back to the track. With the Charlotte Karting Challenge on the docket over the next two weekends, a return to the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway will kick off this weekend.

The ProKart Challenge returned trackside on June 12-14 with the second and third rounds contested on the kart track at the Willow Springs International Raceway. Racing for Superkarts! USA had been shut down since the March weekend of the SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals in New Orleans, but welcomed triple-digit numbers for each of the two rounds of regional racing program under almost-perfect weather conditions at in Rosamond, California. Attendees followed social distancing guidelines to help keep officials and competitors safe while enjoying the three-day event.

Less than a month to go and Formula One is getting back in action. Ahead of that restart several F1 drivers choose to train in the sport where it al started: karting. IAME Belgium posted these pictures below of George Russell, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz training to get in shape before the F1 restart. Interview with Sandro Lorandi - Babyrace Driver Academy

A former KZ driver, Sandro Lorandi created the Babyrace team to support his sons Alessio and Leonardo in their debut in kart racing. With the good results, the team quickly grew to become one of the most successful at international level. Alessio won the first CIK-FIA KF-Junior World Championship in 2013 in Bahrain. Despite the transition of his two sons to single-seater racing, Sandro Lorandi continues to satisfy his passion for motor sport by training young drivers for high-level competition at the Babyrace Driver Academy. At the beginning of June 2020, he takes stock of the upcoming resumption of competition as the COVID-19 situation improves day by day.
