Temecula, CA – Year 20 of the California ProKart Challenge will complete the first half of the championship chase when the series heads to the Santa Maria Kart Track on the May 18-19 weekend. The first two rounds of the 2024 Superkarts! USA regional series were held at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park, and now the program heads to Santa Maria near the Pacific Coast for Round Three.
Home of the Santa Maria Karting Association, the 7/10-mile circuit has been a longtime fixture for the California ProKart Challenge – located just minutes away from the Pacific Ocean. The challenging 13-turn course will be contested in the counterclockwise direction. The single-round weekend format will continue in Santa Maria with five practice sessions on Saturday wrapped up with qualifying at the end of the day. A warm-up precludes the Prefinal and Final sessions on Sunday for the championship categories.
The difference is only two points at the top of the KA100 Senior by P1 Engines championship standings. Jackson Menchu has been the more consistent driver over the opening two rounds, as he leads two-time race winner Ethan Lampe heading into Santa Maria. Keagan Kaminski and Alexander Gonzalez are the next two challengers. Two-time race winner Payton Westcott is the championship leader in the KA100 Junior by SuperSpeed Bearings class. Her advantage is 46 points over Dean Pedersen, with Matthew Cagle sitting third in the chase.
Two wins has JohnJohn McLellan leading the chase in the Mini Swift by Formula Works class standings. His lead is 140 points over Nathan Ramirez, with Braydon Wagner holding the third spot in the championship after two rounds. The two drivers to win thus far in the 2024 season for Micro Swift by Sanner Racing are atop the standings. Round Two winner Byron Borneman holds a 30-point advantage over winner from Round One Aidan Go. The top three drivers in the standings have two podium results a piece, including Hudson Hidalgo who was third and second in the first two rounds.
Alan Sciuto has started out the 2024 season with two wins in the Pro Shifter by HRT Driver Development division. This has Sciuto leading by 80 points in the championship standings over Lucas Weisenberg, with Michael Guasch in third. Scott Carvalho leads the Master Shifter by Mike Manning Karting standings over Rod Streed, while Tony Rossetti has a 15-point advantage over Scott Nealon in the X30 Master by Nash Motorsportz championship chase.
Race Pre-Entry remains open for the third stop of the 2024 California ProKart Challenge until the online registration deadline of Tuesday, May 14 at 11:59 pm PST. As always, a 2024 SKUSA membership is mandatory to register and compete. Complete race and venue information, along with a tentative weekend schedule, can be found on the PKC Event Page.
