Dominik Kraihamer from karting to Formula Le Mans
Published by Bas Kaligis 17 september 2009 15:39 - Print | | The exciting conclusion to the 2009 season of the Formula Le Mans Cup will take place this weekend at the Circuit de Nevers at Magny-Cours in France, where 19-year old Dominik Kraihamer is set to join forces with the very experienced endurance race driver Lionel Robert, as they contest the three one-hour races scheduled as part of the International GT Open event.
The variation in the regular race format gives the Thierry Boutsen Energy Racing team pairing a total of six hours track time beginning Friday morning with two one-hour test sessions and then a one-hour qualifying followed by the first of the one-hour races Saturday afternoon. The remaining two races on the program for the Formula Le Mans class are to be held on Sunday.
Last week saw the final round of the Formula Le Mans Cup series at Silverstone in Great Britain, where Kraihamer overcame some unexpected challenges to qualify on P6 in the first timed session, while Robert making his debut in the class with the Boutsen Energy line-up was 7th best. Although he was one of the most competitive time-wise, Kraihamer’s took a credible 5th place in race 1, while the Frenchman made the podium to take 3rd in the second of the races Sunday.
This will be the first time the Austrian drives the Magny-Cours circuit, but he admits he’s really looking forward to the racing together with partnering Robert on one of his local tracks, “I’m really excited about being able to race this weekend and it’s great to be able to compete alongside a driver like Lionel, who brings with him lots of experience having raced in such events as the 24-Hours of Le Mans over many years. He’s very interested in supporting younger team-mates like myself and able to give the technicians essential feedback in finding the best set-up for the car. Personally, I’m aiming to improve my driving skills as much as possible in the lead-up to next season’s series and the podiums should follow. I’m really enjoying driving the FLM car now.”
Race schedule: Saturday, September 19th Qualifying – 10:40 Race 1 – 14:55
Sunday, September 20th Race 2 – 9:30 Race 3 – 14:45
