Dominik Kraihamer from karting to Formula Le Mans Cup
Published by Bas Kaligis 20 augustus 2009 14:45 - Print | | The Formula Le Mans Cup goes to the legendary Nürburgring in Germany this weekend for the fourth round of the Championship as support to the Le Mans Series 1000km race, which will see Austria’s Dominik Kraihamer racing with the Boutsen Energy Racing Team for the third time this season. Following a disappointing result at the previous round of the Formula Le Mans Cup at the Algarve circuit in Portugal last month, when an electrical problem put an end to the almost certain podium for the 19-year old while running in second place, Kraihamer believes he has an ideal opportunity to take his first top three finish in the series at the Nürburgring.
“I’m really looking forward to the race at the famous Nürburgring track, not only because I enjoy driving the Formula Le Mans car, but also knowing that we really have the chance to get on the podium. The car was good in Portugal and we were leading the first half of the race, until a technical issue after the pitstop forced me to retire only a few laps from the finish. We’re still very confident that we can be competitive enough to be in the top three in Germany.”
Kraihamer will be joined in the Boutsen Energy number 5 car by Matthieu Cheruy, who is currently competing in the Renault Mégane Trophy. At 23 years of age, this is the Frenchman’s sixth season in cars with three podiums and 4th place overall in the 2008 Eurocup Mégane series. He’ll make his Formula Le Mans debut with the Belgian team this weekend.
The 24-Hours of Le Mans was Kraihamer’s introduction to the newly introduced Formula Le Mans Cup, as the exciting curtain-raiser to the most recognised endurance race in the world and no doubt where the thrill of driving the 6.2 litre V8-powered LMP2 car with 430 PS around the long track did nothing but fuel his FLM addiction.
Together with the round in Algarve, the young Salzburg driver has shown his ability to adapt and perform well in the one-make series that continues to gain more interest with every edition. Now, in preparation for the 2010 season, Kraihamer aims to contest the final round of the championship at Silverstone before racing in the FLM Winter Series.
